Leon Draisaitl scored his second goal of the game in overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday night.
Draisaitl's game-winning goal came 3:52 into the extra period. He took a pass from Connor McDavid and skated in on Ilya Sorokin before beating the Islanders goaltender with a shot to the glove side.
The goal was Draisaitl's 49th of the season, which leads the NHL. It was also his second of the game, as he had opened the scoring with a slap shot in the second period.
Calvin Pickard made 24 saves for the Oilers, who won for the fourth time in their last seven games. The win moved Edmonton into second place in the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings.
Bo Horvat scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who have lost three straight games. Sorokin made 33 saves in the loss.
The Islanders outshot the Oilers 30-26, but they were unable to convert on their chances. They also had a chance to win the game in overtime when Pierre Engvall had a shot from the slot, but Pickard made the save.
The Oilers will play the New York Rangers on Sunday, while the Islanders will host the Florida Panthers.

Big effort by the Oilers, very satisfying win against a tough Islanders team!

What's the point of outshooting opponents if the Islanders can't score when it matters?
