Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia held the lead at The Players Championship heading into a windy weekend. Justin Thomas, who shot a record-tying 10-under 62 on Friday, was seven shots behind but remained optimistic.
Lee and Bhatia both shot 66s to finish at 11-under 133. Thomas, who was tied for 134th after an opening-round 78, made a remarkable comeback with 11 birdies on Friday. He finished tied for the lead with Tom Hoge, who also shot a 62.
J.J. Spaun was one shot behind at 10-under, while Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa were two shots back. Two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler was six shots behind but still in contention.
The 36-hole cut was 1-under 143. Xander Schauffele made it on the number, extending his cut streak to 59 on the PGA Tour. Danny Walker also made the cut after starting the week as an alternate.
Among those missing the cut were Ludvig Aberg, Jordan Spieth, and Wyndham Clark. Six PGA Tour winners this year failed to make the cut, including Hideki Matsuyama.
