Canadian Reece Howden secured a gold medal in the ski cross event at the World Cup held at Craigleith Ski Club on Friday. Howden, hailing from Cultus Lake, British Columbia, emerged victorious in the four-man big final, edging out Switzerland's Alex Fiva.
"Winning the start is crucial here, and you need to be aggressive because there's limited time to make a difference," Howden remarked. "I had a close call in the quarterfinals but managed to get ahead at the finish line. Maintaining precision and solidity is key on this track, and you need to hold your ground."
Kevin Drury, Howden's teammate from Toronto, also achieved a podium finish by securing the bronze medal after a close race with Florian Wilmsmann of Germany.
In the women's competition, Switzerland's Fanny Smith clinched the gold medal, followed by Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France and Italy's Jole Galli. India Sherret, representing Cranbrook, British Columbia, secured the top spot in the small final, placing fifth overall.
The World Cup action continued with another set of races scheduled for Saturday at the same venue.

This World Cup event is too commercialized and focused on sponsorships, not the sport. π°
