Former IU Basketball Players Allege Sexual Abuse by Team Doctor
Four former Indiana University basketball players accuse team doctor Bradford Bomba Sr. of sexual assault. Their lawsuit also includes an account from a fifth player who claims he complained to coach Bobby Knight in 1979 about Bomba's unnecessary rectal exams. Knight allegedly took no action.
The lawsuit alleges "systemic sexual assaults and sex-based harassment" by Bomba and IU's failure to protect players. Bomba, who provided medical care to IU athletes from 1962 to the late 1990s, has invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
The players are suing IU and longtime trainer Tim Garl under Title IX, seeking unspecified damages and urging former teammates to join their lawsuit.
IU has declined to comment on the allegations, stating that an independent review is underway.
