Bayi Aerobatic Team Flies to Thailand for Diplomatic Anniversary Celebrations

The Bayi Aerobatic Team, representing the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, departed from an airport in northern China on Sunday to participate in commemorative events in Thailand. The celebrations highlight the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, as well as the 88th anniversary of the Royal Thai Air Force. According to Li Bin, the team leader, seven J-10 aircraft successfully completed the flight to Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport without any stopovers, using mid-air refueling made possible by a YU-20 tanker. The total distance covered by this impressive journey was over 3,600 kilometers.

Formed more than six decades ago, the Bayi Aerobatic Team has developed a reputation for its remarkable demonstrations. Over the years, the squad has utilized a variety of aircraft models, including the J-5, J-6, J-7EB, J-7GB, J-10, and currently, the advanced J-10C. The team’s aerobatic performances are acclaimed internationally, having entertained and impressed more than 700 delegations from over 170 countries and regions across the globe.

The current mission represents the team's twelfth overseas air-show display, underscoring its international presence and diplomatic role. Additionally, this visit is especially significant as it marks the team's first return to Thailand in ten years. The visit symbolizes the deepening friendship and cooperative relationship between the Chinese and Thai air forces and underscores a mutual commitment to cultural exchange and enhanced interactions between the two nations and their military forces.
