The Ottawa Senators defeated the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night by a score of 2-1. The win was largely due to the outstanding performance of Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark, who stopped 48 of the 49 shots he faced.
The Red Wings outshot the Senators by a wide margin, but Ullmark was simply too good. He made several spectacular saves, including a diving stop on a breakaway in the second period.
The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a power-play goal by David Perron. The Red Wings tied the game in the third period on a goal by Dylan Larkin, but the Senators regained the lead with just under five minutes remaining in regulation on a goal by Dylan Cozens.
The Red Wings had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Lucas Raymond's shot was just wide of the net. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Red Wings, who are now four points out of a playoff spot.
The Senators, meanwhile, are now in first place in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. They are two points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have a game in hand.
