Jotham Napat Elected Prime Minister of Vanuatu
Jotham Napat, president of the Leaders Party of Vanuatu, was elected the country's new prime minister on Tuesday, according to the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC). Napat secured the position through a secret ballot in the parliament located in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu.
As the sole nominee in the election, Napat received 50 votes of support from the 52-seat parliament. The remaining two votes were declared void. Following his election, Napat addressed the parliament, expressing his deep gratitude for the support and acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead, particularly the reconstruction efforts needed after the recent earthquake.

Later on Tuesday, Napat appointed Johnny Koanapo Rasou as deputy prime minister. Rasou will also serve as the minister of finance and economic management, according to VBTC.
