China's National Legislature Holds Second Plenary Meeting
The third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, held its second plenary meeting on Saturday. The meeting focused on deliberating work reports from the Standing Committee of the 14th NPC, the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the meeting, including Li Qiang, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, delivered the work report of the national legislature. He highlighted the legislature's efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Constitution and enhance compliance oversight. He also mentioned the legislature's work in deliberating and adopting new and revised laws, as well as its oversight function.
Zhang Jun, President of the SPC, delivered the top court's work report. He reported that Chinese courts at all levels accepted and concluded over 46 million cases in 2024. He emphasized the courts' role in safeguarding national security and social stability, promoting high-quality development, and guaranteeing people's well-being.
Ying Yong, Procurator-general of the SPP, delivered the top procuratorate's work report. He highlighted the procuratorates' work in advancing the Peaceful China Initiative and improving people's livelihood. He also mentioned their commitment to deepening reform and contributing to national rejuvenation.
The meeting concluded with work plans for the national legislature, the top court, and the top procuratorate in 2025.
