Parramatta Eels Confirm Dylan Brown's Departure
The Parramatta Eels have confirmed that five-eighth Dylan Brown will be leaving the club at the end of the 2025 season. This news follows reports that Brown has been offered a record-breaking deal by the Newcastle Knights, and his own social media post hinting at his departure.
News Corp first reported on Monday that Brown, 24, had agreed to a 10-year, $13 million deal to join the Knights from next season. The Eels confirmed this news, stating that Brown had informed the club of his decision.
Eels general manager of football Mark O'Neill acknowledged the significant offer Brown received, stating it was "the biggest deal in NRL history." He expressed understanding for Brown's decision, emphasizing his commitment to the Eels for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Reports emerged earlier on Monday that Brown was close to signing the massive deal with the Knights. This would surpass the previous record-breaking 10-year, $12 million deal given to Tino Fa'asuamaleaui by the Gold Coast Titans in 2023.
Following these reports, Brown took to social media, hinting at his departure from the Eels. He stated that he had decided to take an opportunity that was best for him and his family, while assuring the Eels fans that he remained committed to the team for the rest of the season.
Brown, a New Zealander who has represented the Kiwis in eight Test matches, has played 124 games for the Eels since his debut in 2019. He played in all 24 games for Parramatta last season, when the team finished a disappointing 15th. He also started in the Eels's opening loss to the Storm in Melbourne this season.

Good riddance. Parramatta shouldn't be held hostage by these massive contracts.

Sure, the money sounds good now, Brown—but let's see how motivated you stay for a full decade.

10 years is a crazy risk for Newcastle—good luck justifying that paycheck when form drops.
