Greenland Prime Minister Criticizes Trump's Lack of Respect
Greenland's Prime Minister, Mute Egede, expressed his disappointment with US President Donald Trump's recent remarks regarding the acquisition of Greenland. Egede believes that Trump has not treated Greenlanders with the respect they deserve, particularly since his renewed interest in acquiring the island.
Trump initially expressed his interest in acquiring Greenland during his address to Congress last Tuesday. He painted a picture of prosperity and safety for the "incredible people" of Greenland, an autonomous territory of the kingdom of Denmark. He reiterated this message in a Truth Social post on Monday, stating that the US would continue to keep Greenland safe and invest billions of dollars to create jobs and wealth.
However, Egede believes that Trump's actions have damaged relations between the US and Greenland. He stated in an interview with Danish public broadcaster DR that Greenlanders deserve to be treated with respect, and that Trump's recent actions have not shown that respect.
Egede also emphasized that Greenland belongs to its people and that they should decide on their own future. He supports full independence for Greenland, which has a population of only 57,000.
Despite Trump's promises of prosperity, a recent poll indicated that 85% of Greenlanders do not wish to become a part of the United States. Nearly half of Greenlanders view Trump's interest as a threat.
Greenland, whose capital Nuuk is closer to New York than the Danish capital Copenhagen, boasts mineral, oil, and natural gas wealth. However, development has been slow, and its economy remains heavily reliant on fishing and annual subsidies from Denmark.

Sorry, but Greenland's economy remains limited. They should at least listen to a proposal that promises billions in investment.

Egede talks of independence, but can Greenland realistically sustain itself without outside help?

Mute Egede is overreacting; Trump clearly wants to bring economic growth and stability to Greenland.

The Greenland PM should be more pragmatic and consider the investment opportunities Trump is offering rather than shutting him down.

I think Egede is making a unnecessary political drama. Trump’s intentions seem good for Greenland’s economy.

85% of Greenlanders saying NO is a strong enough message. Trump should listen and move on.
