Atalanta's Scudetto Dream Lives On After Juventus Thrashing
Atalanta's 4-0 demolition of Juventus on Sunday has reignited their Scudetto dream, moving them within three points of league leaders Inter Milan. The Bergamo side will host Inter next week in a crucial clash that could decide the fate of the title.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini urged his team to keep believing in their ability to win the Serie A title. "We must never stop them dreaming," he said. "We may say it's impossible, but if you believe enough, things can become possible."
Atalanta's victory at the Allianz Stadium was a statement of intent. They moved up to third place with 58 points, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter against Inter. Gasperini acknowledged the strength of Inter and Napoli, but also pointed out that Atalanta had never been in this position before. "We had never reached this stage of the season in the running for the top spot, so you never know," he said.
Gasperini was particularly pleased with his team's ability to end Juventus' five-game winning streak. He described their performance as "almost perfect" and praised striker Ademola Lookman for his 13th Serie A goal.
Lookman's transformation from "one of the worst penalty takers" to a key player has been remarkable. Gasperini believes that Lookman's commitment to the team has been instrumental in his success. "He made Atalanta great and Atalanta made him great," he said.
