Nearly 300 Indians were flown home through Thailand on Monday, March 10th, after being released from scam centers in Myanmar. This repatriation effort was part of a larger crackdown on illegal online fraud operations in the region.
Authorities in Myanmar, under pressure from China, have recently targeted scam compounds that have proliferated in the country's lawless borderlands. These operations have resulted in the release of approximately 7,000 workers from over two dozen countries, with the majority being Chinese nationals. However, many of these individuals have been forced to endure harsh conditions in temporary holding camps located on the Myanmar-Thai border.
To facilitate the return of the Indian nationals, a group of Indian officials crossed into Myanmar and accompanied seven buses carrying the freed individuals, along with three additional buses transporting their luggage, to Mae Sot airport in northwest Thailand.

The Thai and Myanmar governments should be held accountable for their failure to prevent these camps from operating. 😠
