Trump's Frequent Mar-a-Lago Trips Strain Local Resources
President Trump's frequent visits to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida are placing a significant strain on local resources. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw is obligated to deploy helicopters, extra manpower, and boats to protect Trump, his family, and entourage. The daily overtime bill alone has been reported to be $240,000.
Commissioners approved Bradshaw's "urgent request" of $45 million to provide security for Trump's visits through November, but this figure is expected to rise. "We've already heard some information where he may be spending more time here than in Washington," Bradshaw said.
The Palm Beach bill pales in comparison to the federal costs associated with Trump's travel. Each visit to and from Palm Beach International Airport costs taxpayers about $1 million, and a 2019 Government Accountability Office report calculated that federal agencies spent an average of $13.6 million on each of four Trump trips to Mar-a-Lago during his first term.
Watchdog groups and consumer advocates have expressed concerns about the financial implications of Trump's frequent trips. They point to evidence of Trump overcharging the Secret Service to stay at his properties and argue that his ownership of his businesses creates a conflict of interest.
Palm Beach County expects to be reimbursed with federal funds for its security expenses, but residents are frustrated by the financial burden and the inconveniences caused by the numerous road closures and other disruptions every weekend. They believe that Trump should spend more time in the real White House.

This article intentionally overlooks the economic boost his visits give local businesses.

Stop complaining! Presidents always have high security costs. It's nothing new!

If a president is serious about the job, he'll spend more time in Washington doing the people's business.

The federal government reimburses Palm Beach County, so what's the big deal?
