Prime Minister Ishiba Vows All-Out Effort for Upcoming Election
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, also the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), addressed the party's annual convention in Tokyo on Sunday, vowing to dedicate himself and make every effort to secure victory in the upcoming House of Councillors election. He urged party members to unite and work for the nation, the people, and the future.
This triennial election holds particular significance for the LDP-Komeito coalition government, which lost its majority in the House of Representatives during last year's general election. Acknowledging the party's recent political funds scandal, Ishiba emphasized the need for humility and a return to the mindset they held when they were out of power. He stressed the importance of listening to the voices of those facing hardship and regaining public trust.
The convention welcomed guests from various sectors, including Komeito head Tetsuo Saito, Keidanren chairman Masakazu Tokura, and Rengo president Tomoko Yoshino. Notably, this marked the first time in 20 years that a Rengo president attended the LDP convention.
Looking ahead, the LDP plans to map out a new vision for the nation as they approach their 70th anniversary on November 15th this year, aiming towards their 100th anniversary. Additionally, the party adopted its 2025 activity program, which includes drawing up a political reform plan to rebuild trust damaged by the funds scandal.

A clean break from the past and a focus on the future - that's the way to go!

It's time for a new chapter in Japanese politics. Let's move forward without the LDP.

Their 2025 activity program is just a bunch of words on paper. They won't actually do anything.

Listening to the voices of the people? More like silencing them with their propaganda.

May they always put the people and the nation first!

This collaboration with Komeito and Rengo is just a way for them to stay in power.

I refuse to believe that the LDP can be redeemed. They need to be voted out of office.

I'm glad he's addressing the party's mistakes and focusing on rebuilding trust. That's what we need.

Why should we trust them again after the funds scandal? They're just going to line their own pockets.

We need to show the world that Japan is ready for change, not stuck in the past with the LDP.
