A pro-Palestinian protester who climbed Big Ben barefoot and spent over 16 hours on a ledge was safely brought down by emergency services. He was arrested after reaching the ground.
The man had flown the Palestinian flag from the Elizabeth Tower, breaching security by climbing over a fence. He was seen in pictures being lifted down in a cherry picker.
Emergency services used an aerial ladder platform and negotiators to coax him down. He was eventually brought down safely around midnight.
The incident caused the closure of Westminster Bridge and the cancellation of parliamentary tours.
The protester had posted updates on social media, saying he would come down on his own terms. He also threatened to climb higher if negotiators approached him.
The incident came amid a weekend of pro-Palestine protests across the country. Activists also targeted one of Donald Trump's golf courses in Scotland.

Now taxpayers foot the bill for his pointless and unsafe actions—ridiculous!

Respect to anyone willing to sacrifice their freedom to shine a spotlight on injustice.

I have sympathy for causes—but climbing national landmarks and causing disruption is just wrong.

This harms the message of genuine supporters who peacefully advocate for the cause.
