Wang Lixia, chairwoman of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, stated that the region has accomplished significant strides toward ensuring national energy stability and security. Wang discussed these accomplishments at the Inner Mongolia plenary session held on March 6 during the third session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing.
This meeting highlighted the confidence and substantial growth that Inner Mongolia is currently experiencing. Twenty-nine domestic and international media outlets reported on the event, underscoring its significance and global interest.
Journalists present at the meeting raised several questions regarding crucial developments across various sectors. Issues discussed included modernization and upgrading of the energy sector, promoting the growth of culture and tourism, progress in major infrastructure initiatives, enhancing trade cooperation with Mongolia, and reforms within State-owned enterprises. Chairwoman Wang provided detailed insights on Inner Mongolia's key developmental accomplishments in 2024, emphasizing growth across several domains.
For the past three years, Inner Mongolia's economic indicators achieved growth rates among the highest in China. As a result, the region’s total economic output has returned to the national mid-level after five years. Inner Mongolia led China in coal production, electricity transmission, and agricultural outputs such as beef, lamb, and dairy products, contributing significantly to the country's demands. More than half of China's total grain, meat, and milk supplies originated from the area, highlighting its critical role in national food security. Additionally, the region expanded its capacity in green energy generation and computing technologies, increasingly integrated nationwide.
The area's economy experienced a clear shift toward diversification. The added value from non-coal industrial sectors rose by 8.2 percent, representing more than 60 percent of Inner Mongolia’s overall industrial output. This transition shows meaningful progress toward reducing reliance on coal and fostering a broader economic base.
Environmental conservation also saw substantial advances in 2024. Inner Mongolia has completed 45.8 percent of China's national Three-North Forest Shelterbelt Program, a major forestry initiative aimed at combating desertification and promoting ecological stability. Furthermore, the region implemented effective grassland recovery through targeted conservation policies and substantially improved land and water resource efficiency, underscoring a holistic approach to sustainable development.

This sounds overly optimistic. It's hard to believe everything is as perfect as described.
