A Celebration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai
A vibrant cultural festival dedicated to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) unfolded in Shanghai, seamlessly blending ancient wellness practices with modern urban living. Held at the Ruihong Tiandi business complex in Hongkou district, the 10-day event showcased 40 intangible cultural heritage projects and 118 TCM-themed experiences.
The festival provided a platform for ten TCM practitioners to offer consultations, while six time-honored brands and four cultural and creative enterprises specializing in TCM presented their products and services. Recognizing the growing interest in TCM among young people, Lei Yanqing, senior director of Shui On Xintiandi, remarked, "Today's youth are increasingly concerned about their health and are eager to explore traditional Chinese medicine and culture. Our aim is to promote TCM culture while establishing a new Chinese-style wellness lifestyle."
The festival was meticulously organized into five themed sections, encompassing medical consultations, traditional therapies like acupuncture and massage, and herbal medicine workshops. Visitors were captivated by diverse activities, ranging from traditional exercise demonstrations to hands-on experiences in making herbal sachets.
The event attracted international attention, with Syton Peter Chawinga, a student from Malawi studying at Shanghai International Studies University, sharing his unique perspective. "Unlike Western medicine that focuses on specific symptoms, TCM strives to understand the whole body before prescribing treatment," he observed.

Traditional Chinese Medicine isn't scientifically proven—shouldn't we promote evidence-based medicine instead?
