China's Dominance

Western Land-Sea New Corridor Expands as Vital Economic Link for Western China

The Western Land-Sea New Corridor, a major railway route connecting China's western areas with South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is rapidly developing into a strategic logistics and economic connection for China's western regions to reach international markets, according to a statement from Zhang Shuxin. Zhang, who serves as the deputy general manager of Guangxi's Beibu Gulf Port Group and is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, emphasized this corridor's significance while attending China's ongoing two sessions meetings on Friday.

Zhang reported impressive logistical achievements for this vital corridor, highlighting that the railway has so far enabled the shipment of over 1,100 different categories of products. These goods have been delivered to more than 500 ports across 127 countries and regions globally, demonstrating its extensive reach and growing importance.

Importantly, Zhang pointed out the ongoing growth within the automobile sector that utilizes the Western Land-Sea New Corridor for exports. By 2024, the annual export volume of cars and automobile components via this corridor is predicted to reach approximately 35,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, showcasing a notable year-on-year growth rate of 25 percent.

Zhang additionally identified several regional agricultural specialties that have thrived through the efficiency of the corridor. Notable products including goji berries from Ningxia Hui autonomous region, lemons from Chongqing, and sugar from Guangxi have successfully used the transport route to expand their market presence, moving efficiently from China's inland mountains through ports to destinations around the world.
