Police in Baton Rouge have announced a significant breakthrough in their investigation of a deadly fraternity hazing incident that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Southern University student Caleb Wilson. Wilson died following injuries he sustained after being repeatedly punched with boxing gloves at a warehouse event linked to fraternity hazing rituals. Authorities expect to make additional arrests soon as the investigation unfolds.
Caleb McCray, a 23-year-old fraternity member of Omega Psi Phi, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and felony criminal hazing in connection with Wilson's death. According to eyewitness testimony cited in court documents, McCray was identified as the individual who repeatedly punched Wilson. Police confirmed McCray voluntarily surrendered himself on Thursday and is currently detained at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Initially, people who transported Wilson to Baton Rouge General Medical Center misled medical staff, stating falsely that Wilson had collapsed from a chest injury sustained while playing basketball. After delivering Wilson to the emergency room, these individuals left quickly, prompting further suspicion and investigation by the authorities.
