Griekspoor Stuns Zverev in Indian Wells Marathon, Świątek and Rybakina Advance

Dutch tennis player Tallon Griekspoor has achieved a remarkable victory over top seed and Australian Open runner-up Alexander Zverev in a marathon second-round clash at the Indian Wells tournament in California.

Griekspoor displayed incredible resilience and mental fortitude throughout the match, ultimately triumphing after three hours and seven minutes of intense competition. He expressed immense pride in his accomplishment, acknowledging the mental challenges he had faced in previous encounters with Zverev.

The match witnessed a dramatic turn of events as Zverev, despite serving for the match in the second set, was unable to secure victory. Griekspoor edged out the world number two in the second-set tiebreaker, forcing a deciding set.

Demonstrating remarkable composure, Griekspoor saved five match points at 6-5 in the third set before regrouping to win the crucial tiebreak. This victory marked his first win over a top-five opponent in 19 attempts, a significant milestone in his career.

In the next round, Griekspoor will face France's 29th seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Other notable results in the men's draw include Alexei Popyrin's victory over Zizou Bergs and Marcos Giron's win against fourth seed Casper Ruud.

On the women's side, second seed and former world number one Iga Świątek advanced to the third round with a dominant performance against Caroline Garcia. Seventh-seeded Elena Rybakina also progressed with a comfortable win over Suzan Lamens.
