Elections

Key Issues and Leaders Take Center Stage as State Heads to the Polls

Key Information for Election Day

When will we know the result?

While Labor's landslide victory in 2021 was declared within 45 minutes of polls closing, this year's result may take longer due to the high number of early votes.

Where can I vote and find a sausage sizzle?

Polls are open from 8am to 6pm. You can find your local polling place on the WA Electoral Commission website.

For those seeking the quintessential election day experience, a comprehensive list of polling booths offering democracy sausages, cakes, bacon and eggs, and coffee is available online.

Who are the key players?

Incumbent Premier Roger Cook leads the Labor party, while the Liberal party is headed by Libby Mettam, who aims to become WA's first female Liberal premier. Shane Love, leader of the Nationals, also plays a significant role.

What are the big issues?

Housing affordability and the cost of living have dominated the campaign, with over 20 election promises addressing these concerns. Health services and family and domestic violence are also key issues.

What are the key seats?

Labor holds 54 of the 59 lower house seats, with several marginal seats attracting attention, including Churchlands, Nedlands, and Warren-Blackwood. The newly created seat of Mid West is also a focal point.

Once again, indigenous issues and climate change don't get a proper mention—poor coverage.

Libby Mettam would be WA's first female Liberal premier—but is that more important than her policies? Typical superficial media.

Early voting delays results—great, another reason for everyone to argue and speculate!

Polls open until 6pm? Many people working later are excluded and disenfranchised!

This article says little about how major parties have failed on healthcare. Shallow coverage.

They never mention independent or minor party candidates. Why always the same two parties?
