A Journey Beyond Mountains and Rivers, Embracing Culture, Tradition, and the Beauty of Life

A Journey Beyond Mountains and Rivers

Wang Ning, a prominent figure in Yunnan's political landscape, extends a warm invitation to experience the beauty of the province through "sojourning." This unique concept goes beyond mere sightseeing, offering travelers an immersive experience lasting over two weeks, allowing them to truly connect with Yunnan's rich culture, traditions, and way of life.

Yunnan's allure extends far beyond its breathtaking landscapes. Six UNESCO World Heritage Sites, eight historical and cultural cities, and countless traditional villages paint a vibrant picture of the province's heritage. Its diverse ecosystems and natural resources have even earned it the honor of hosting the United Nations Biodiversity Conference.

The allure of Yunnan has drawn millions of sojourners in recent years, particularly those seeking respite from the summer heat or winter chill. Among them are young entrepreneurs who have found inspiration in the province's agricultural products, launching livestreaming businesses and revitalizing villages with cafes and bookstores.

The story of Tan Lijun and her husband exemplifies the transformative power of sojourning. Recognizing the unique appeal of local pottery, they began livestreaming sales, connecting Yunnan's artisans with a wider audience. Their initiative has not only benefited their own business but has also breathed new life into the once sparsely populated village of Tuguachong.

Yannick Benichou, a French traveler, finds solace in Yunnan's pleasant climate and diverse landscapes. The year-round outdoor activities, ranging from hiking and camping to rock climbing and cycling, offer endless opportunities for exploration. Benichou particularly cherishes the cultural and topographical diversity, from the snow-capped peaks of Shangri-La to the lush rainforests of Xishuangbanna.

With the ambitious goal of attracting 6 million sojourners this year, the province is actively developing over 3,000 major sojourning villages. These villages will offer a range of services, including healthcare, educational tours, cultural and sporting activities, and elderly care, contributing to both economic growth and rural revitalization.

Yunnan's vision extends beyond sightseeing, aiming to create immersive travel experiences that showcase the province's unique charm. By upgrading existing attractions and fostering innovative tourism initiatives, the "Sojourning in Yunnan" brand promises to captivate travelers from all corners of the globe.

Turning vibrant villages into tourist hotspots might compromise the authentic cultural identity.

Sounds like a fancy marketing gimmick. I doubt locals will benefit as much as they're claiming.

Sounds great on paper, but what about ensuring stable economic conditions for villagers long-term?

It seems they're prioritizing commercialism over genuine cultural preservation.
