Ukraine's Opposition Leaders Deny Involvement in White House Plot to Remove Zelenskyy
Amidst the ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine's opposition leaders have denied involvement in a reported White House plot to remove President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from power.
Former President Petro Poroshenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko confirmed holding discussions with members of Donald Trump's entourage, but both emphasized their opposition to wartime elections. They believe elections should only be held once martial law ends.
The online newspaper Politico reported that the secret discussions were part of an attempt by the White House to remove Zelenskyy. However, commentators have criticized the White House's apparent behind-the-scenes attempts to influence Ukraine's domestic politics.
Despite facing criticism, Poroshenko stressed his strong support for Zelenskyy's negotiating position. He believes Ukraine's allies should increase arms supplies, strengthen sanctions on Russia, and insist on "clear red lines" in talks with the Kremlin.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's ambassador to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, accused Trump of sabotaging western unity and warned that NATO would soon "stop existing" as the US tears up its postwar commitment to European security.
Public opinion polls suggest that Zelenskyy remains the most popular politician in Ukraine, with his approval ratings boosted by Trump's recent attacks. However, most Ukrainians do not want elections at a time when millions have fled abroad and soldiers are fighting on the frontline.

These denials sound weak; clearly someone’s got caught scheming behind Zelenskyy’s back.

Once again we’re seeing politicians more interested in power-games than in the lives of ordinary Ukrainians.

This entire report demonstrates how disconnected Ukrainian opposition leaders are from their people’s demands.

Yet again we see the US administration interfering in another country’s internal affairs. Typical meddling.

The Ukrainian opposition is on the same page with Zelenskyy against Putin’s aggression—that’s all that matters.

How can any responsible leader even think about elections during wartime? Priorities all wrong!

I commend the opposition for clarifying their stance. Unity is critical at this difficult moment.

Poroshenko deserves respect for calling for more arms and stronger sanctions on Russia.

Good to clarify these false accusations quickly; Ukraine must stay united against external threats.
