Crown Princess Mette-Marit's Health Update
The Norwegian Royal Palace has announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit's chronic lung condition has worsened, potentially impacting her ability to fulfill her royal duties. The 51-year-old wife of Crown Prince Haakon was diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, an incurable disease that causes scarring of the lungs and shortness of breath.
The condition has previously affected her royal duties, requiring her to reduce her workload or cancel engagements. The palace's recent health update stated that the Crown Princess experiences daily symptoms and ailments that hinder her ability to perform her duties.
Furthermore, her condition is changing more rapidly than before, necessitating more frequent and shorter-notice adjustments to her official schedule. In 2023 and 2024, she took several weeks of sick leave to manage her health.
In a recent interview, Crown Princess Mette-Marit acknowledged the impact of her health on her life, stating that reaching 50 has made her realize the finite nature of life.
The Crown Princess has also been in the news recently due to her son's legal troubles. Her 28-year-old son, from a previous relationship, has been accused of assault by several ex-girlfriends. In August 2024, he admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and cocaine during one of the alleged incidents.
