White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday harshly criticized House and Senate Democrats for their behavior during President Donald Trump's joint session address to Congress on Tuesday night. Leavitt described the Democrats' refusal to applaud the families of deceased Americans, as highlighted during the president's speech, as disrespectful and shameful.
During the early part of Trump's address, disruptions by Rep. Al Green from Texas became pronounced enough that House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered Green removed. Green had interrupted Trump's speech repeatedly, waving a cane in protest. In addition to vocal disruptions, Democrats displayed signs voicing disagreement, branding statements made by the president as lies, falsehoods, or abnormal behavior.
Leavitt emphasized the Democrats' selective applause, claiming the only significant instance of unified Democratic applause occurred when funding for Ukraine's defense against Russia was mentioned. She called their conduct "shameful," asserting that instead of using the speech as a chance for unity, Democrats opted for disruptive and disrespectful actions.
Notably, Democrats did not stand or applaud the recognition of sensitive and personal cases mentioned by Trump. These included a young woman severely injured by a volleyball spike from a transgender female athlete, a 13-year-old child struggling against brain cancer, families grieving after their daughters were killed by undocumented migrants, and the president’s comments on cutting taxes.
Leavitt accused the Democratic Party of prioritizing their opposition to President Trump ("Trump Derangement Syndrome") above the interests and welfare of American citizens. She described their behavior as demonstrating hostility toward American achievements and national unity, framing the Democrats as "the party of insanity and hate" and accusing them of placing American concerns last.
Leavitt concluded by pledging to ensure that the Democrats' actions during Trump's congressional address would not be forgotten, underscoring the administration's resolve to highlight what they perceive as opponents' disregard for national unity and public well-being.

Democrats just showed America they care more about opposing Trump than standing with everyday citizens.

Al Green bravely speaking out isn't embarrassment—it's courage to stand against misinformation and hate speech.

Leavitt conveniently leaves out how Trump politicized tragedy to promote his transphobia and anti-immigrant agenda.

Americans deserve better than the disrespect Democrats showed grieving families and brave suffering children.

Maybe Karoline Leavitt should look at her own party’s endless hostility before lecturing Dems about ‘insanity and hate.’

Thank you, Karoline Leavitt, for speaking truth. Democrats chose division and disrespect instead of unity.

According to Leavitt, silently protesting blatant lies is somehow worse than Trump exploiting human suffering.

Applauding only for foreign funding but not American tragedies? That alone is reason enough to call Democrats 'the party of hate.'

Karoline Leavitt just twisting reality again—the Dems are perfectly within their right to peacefully protest Trump’s falsehoods.
