A Memphis resident is facing multiple severe charges following an incident where he allegedly opened fire into a residence, injuring his sister along with a two-year-old child. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jamison Cameron, was arrested soon after the shooting incident, which took place at the Condominiums at Brentwood on Saturday.
According to police reports, the woman involved, who is Cameron's own sister, stated that she had just arrived at the home accompanied by the toddler and two other children when Cameron approached them and began shooting. The woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg, while the toddler had injuries to the face. Authorities clarified that the child’s facial injuries resulted from debris, not from a direct gunshot, as was initially reported.
Thankfully, the other minors who were present—including a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old outside with the victims, and a five-month-old and a 14-year-old located upstairs—were all unharmed in the incident. Investigators noted that Cameron's family could not understand why he carried out this attack. Cameron later reportedly contacted his sister, describing the event as an accident and expressing confusion over her decision to name him as the perpetrator.
Cameron has now been charged with multiple serious offenses, including five counts of attempted second-degree murder, five counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, reckless endangerment, and aggravated child abuse. Authorities have set bond at $750,000, and Cameron remains in custody awaiting his court appearance scheduled for Monday.

Mental illness can manifest in unpredictable ways. I hope Cameron gets the help he needs and that the victims can find some peace.
