Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, previously selected by Kamala Harris as her vice-presidential running mate, has hinted he may consider running for president in 2028. Since Democrats faced a significant loss against Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, both Walz and Harris have stepped back from prominent political roles. However, during an interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour, Walz admitted that he might run for president if he feels capable and valuable to the moment.
Reflecting on the challenging election loss, Walz shared profound feelings of guilt. He openly recognized that, while losing did not significantly harm him personally, he felt deeply troubled by letting down voters who depended on a Democratic win. Walz expressed particular concern about vulnerable groups, such as LGBTQ individuals and Medicaid recipients, whose lives could become harder under the Republican administration.
He further explained that the disconnect voters felt with the Democratic Party resulted in their recent election defeat. He emphasized wanting leaders who aim to serve rather than pursue personal ambition, emphasizing the importance of humility and service in public office.
Walz also acknowledged his previous campaign missteps, including controversial statements regarding his past friendships and inaccuracies about his military background and travels. One notable incident involved him criticizing the electoral college during a fundraiser, prompting quick damage control from the Harris campaign.
Governor Walz mentioned that he was not frequently in touch with Kamala Harris, who currently resides in California. Harris herself faces a significant decision regarding her political future, considering options like running for president again, running for California governor, or potentially leaving politics altogether.

He's just another politician looking for power. We need someone who actually cares about people.

His campaign was a disaster. How can we trust him to handle the whole country?

He admits to mistakes but what about making things right? Just saying sorry isn't enough.

Walz, seriously? After the beating we took last election? Step aside and let someone else try.

I'm tired of the same old politicians. Walz is a breath of fresh air.

He feels 'capable'? Is that all it takes these days? This isn't 'American Idol,' it's the presidency!
