China Concludes ISU World Cup Speed Skating with Strong Performance
China concluded the 2024-2025 ISU World Cup Speed Skating season with a respectable haul of one silver and four bronze medals. The event concluded in Poland on Sunday, marking the end of a successful season for the Chinese team.
The team's medal tally included a bronze in the men's team sprint, with Xue Zhiwen, Lian Ziwen, and Deng Zhihan clocking a time of 1:20.55. South Korea secured silver with 1:20.47, while the United States took gold with 1:19.27.
Individually, Han Mei shone brightly, claiming silver in the women's 1000 meters with a time of 1:16.31 and bronze in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 1:57.56. Notably, Han also secured bronze in the women's 1000 meters at the third stop of the World Cup event, currently ranking third in the overall standings despite missing one stop this season.
Ning Zhongyan also contributed significantly to the team's success, securing bronze medals in both the men's 1500 meters (1:46.06) and the men's 1000 meters (1:08.84).
This strong performance follows the Chinese speed skating team's impressive showing at the recently concluded Harbin Asian Winter Games, where they achieved their best performance in the competition's history, winning 11 gold, five silver, and five bronze medals. Han and Ning were particularly dominant, each claiming three gold medals.
