Clement Ducol and Camille, a French composer duo, won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards on March 3, 2023. Their winning song, "El Mal," was featured in the film "Emilia Pérez."
"El Mal" is a powerful three-minute song performed by Saldana as lawyer Rita Castro. The song is a fantasy in which Castro dances around a room filled with the rich and powerful, decrying the hypocrisy of those responsible for the murders of thousands of Mexicans during the drug wars.
Mick Jagger presented the award to Ducol and Camille. He joked that the producer originally wanted Bob Dylan to present the award, but Dylan declined, saying that the best songs of the year were in the movie "A Complete Unknown."
"El Mal" was one of two songs from "Emilia Pérez" that were nominated for Oscars. The other song, "Mi Camino," was a romantic ballad performed by Selena Gomez. Both songs were written by Camille and Ducol.

Overhyped and overrated. There were much better songs nominated this year.

Selena Gomez deserved that Oscar nomination more. "Mi Camino" was the superior song.

El Mal" is just another example of Hollywood exploiting Latin American suffering for profit.

Bob Dylan was right to skip this ceremony. This song isn't even the best one from "A Complete Unknown.
