The Edmonton Oilers finally snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. The win was a much-needed boost for the Oilers, who had been struggling since the league break for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Adam Henrique and Corey Perry scored for the Oilers, while Connor McDavid added an empty-netter. Calvin Pickard made 35 saves for the win.
The Oilers took a 1-0 lead on a short-handed goal by Henrique in the first period. The goal came after Frederik Andersen stopped a shot from Mattias Janmark, but the rebound bounced in off Henrique.
Perry made it 2-0 in the second period with a goal assisted by Leon Draisaitl. Draisaitl's goal streak ended at seven games, but the assist extended his points streak to 11 games (nine goals, six assists).
Sebastian Aho scored a power-play goal for the Hurricanes in the third period, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Oilers' lead. The Hurricanes had three power-play opportunities in the first period but couldn't convert on any and gave up the short-handed goal to Henrique.
The Hurricanes are just 3 for 25 on the power play over the past 10 games.
The Oilers will look to build on their win when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. The Hurricanes will try to get back on track when they host the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

The Oilers got lucky; Andersen mishandled that rebound goal. Next game won't be as easy.

Perry and Henrique scoring is good once in a while, but the Oilers still lack consistent depth scoring.

Calvin Pickard carried the team tonight. Edmonton’s offense needs to step up or they'll lose again soon.
