Rookie Michkov Lifts Flyers to Victory Over Jets
Rookie Matvei Michkov's backhand shot in the shootout proved to be the difference as the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 on Saturday. This victory extended the Flyers' point streak to five games (4-0-1).
Jamie Drysdale scored for the Flyers in regulation, while Ivan Fedotov made 30 saves. Mark Scheifele scored the lone goal for the Jets, with Connor Hellebuyck stopping 31 shots in front of a home crowd of 14,436.
The Jets opened the scoring with Scheifele's goal in the first period, but Philadelphia outshot Winnipeg 14-7 in the opening frame. Drysdale tied the game early in the second period with a shot that hit both posts before going in.
Both teams had chances to win the game in regulation, but neither could find the back of the net. In the shootout, Michkov's goal proved to be the difference as the Flyers secured the victory.
This win marked a significant milestone for Flyers head coach John Tortorella, who surpassed Al Arbour for sixth place in games coached in NHL history. His players responded with a tight-checking performance, blocking 22 shots compared to Winnipeg's 12.
The Jets, meanwhile, have now lost four consecutive games to the Flyers and have scored just one goal in their past four meetings against Philadelphia. They will look to rebound on Tuesday when they visit the New York Islanders.

Jets showed no real urgency, especially in a shootout—very disappointing.

Jets losing streak is frustrating, how many more poor showings before something changes?
