Protests Erupt Against Elon Musk and Tesla
Across the United States, demonstrators gathered outside Tesla stores on Saturday to voice their disapproval of CEO Elon Musk and his collaboration with President Donald Trump to slash government spending. This wave of protests reflects a growing backlash against Musk's increasing influence in Washington, both in North America and Europe.
Critics of Trump and Musk aim to discourage and stigmatize purchases of Tesla vehicles. Liberal groups have been organizing anti-Tesla protests for weeks, hoping to galvanize opposition to Musk's Department of Government Efficiency and energize Democrats still reeling from Trump's 2023 victory.
"We can get back at Elon," said Nathan Phillips, a protestor in Boston. "We can impose direct economic damage on Tesla by showing up at showrooms everywhere and boycotting Tesla."
Musk, following Trump's direction, is pushing for significant cuts to federal spending and workforce reductions. He argues that Trump's victory grants them a mandate to restructure the government. Musk's critics, however, view his actions as an overreach of Congressional power and a potential avenue for personal enrichment.
Despite the protests, the White House remains steadfast in its support for Musk and his efforts. "Protests will not deter President Trump and Elon Musk from delivering on the promise to establish DOGE and make our federal government more efficient," said White House spokesperson Harrison Fields.
The protests, which have spread to cities across the US and even to Europe, have also been accompanied by reports of vandalism against Tesla vehicles. Some owners have found their cars spray-painted with swastikas, raising concerns about a potential rise in antisemitism.
While the protests in Boston maintained a festive atmosphere, with music and chants, the demonstration in New York City resulted in nine arrests.
Despite the controversies, Tesla's share price has remained relatively stable, although it has fallen since Trump took office. Musk's net worth, currently estimated at $359 billion, has also seen a significant increase since 2023.

It's sickening to see Musk enrich himself further while supporting massive layoffs. Keep protesting!

Elon Musk has every right to support policies he believes in. That's called freedom.

Enough is enough! Elon Musk must understand there's pushback against his harmful government cuts.

I stand with Elon. We elected Trump and Musk to reform the system, not to cave to protesters.

Musk is creating real jobs and efficiency. What's wrong with streamlining government waste?

Proud of activists who stand firm against Musk & Trump's disastrous plans for our communities.

These demonstrations are shameful. Vandalizing someone's property because you disagree politically is criminal.

Stop spreading misinformation! Protesters are just jealous of someone who's actually making government accountable.

No more Tesla for me! Joining the boycott until Musk stops pushing political agendas.
