Indiana Couple Charged with Severe Child Neglect and Abuse of 10-Year-Old Son

An Indiana couple, Melody Rose Greenwood, 38, and Adam Jon Greenwood, 36, are under investigation for severe alleged abuse and neglect of their 10-year-old son. Authorities became aware of the abuse when the child, described as extremely underweight, underwent a medical examination at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Medical professionals noted clear signs of neglect and physical harm, prompting them to alert law enforcement.

The investigation revealed troubling details about the child's home environment. According to reports, he was forced into a restricted diet, eating only canned items such as tomatoes, beans, and soups, while his parents and siblings enjoyed regular meals. This selective feeding reportedly led to significant nutritional issues.

Further physical mistreatment was discovered, including prolonged forced standing against a wall for as long as 12 hours a day. At times, a towel was placed over his head to prevent him from watching television. Disturbingly, the boy said that if he spoke or moved away from the wall, his siblings were instructed by the parents to physically assault him.

The child also recounted instances in which he had been bound with zip ties, describing them as painfully tight. He recalled one incident in which he was forced to keep his hands restrained overnight. Officers confirmed observing scars on his wrists, which appeared consistent with restraints described by the victim.

Additionally, reports indicate concerns about the family's approach to education. Two older siblings reportedly carried responsibility for instructing the younger children. However, learning sessions consisted of only brief daily readings while the parents were away for work.

The Greenwoods face preliminary neglect charges, three counts for Melody and two counts for Adam Jon. Melody Greenwood was booked into the Delaware County Jail and later released on a $15,000 bond, while Adam Jon was released after posting a $10,000 bond. The Delaware County Prosecutor's Office will determine the formal charges the couple may ultimately face in connection with these allegations.
