King Charles to Meet Zelensky in Show of Support
King Charles III will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Sandringham on Sunday, in a rare and significant display of royal support. This comes after former US President Donald Trump sparked international outrage by insulting Mr. Zelensky.
The King's invitation follows Mr. Trump's acceptance of a second state visit to Britain, delivered by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. This meeting is seen as a clear signal of Britain's backing for Mr. Zelensky after his fallout with Mr. Trump.
EU leaders will also meet in London to discuss the Ukraine crisis and the need to move forward without relying on America as a security guarantee. Prime Minister Starmer will welcome Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other leaders to Downing Street before the summit.
President Zelensky flew to London on Saturday for an emergency meeting with Sir Keir, who has pledged to "double down" on his commitment to provide aid to Ukraine. The meeting is seen as a confirmation of his "unwavering support" for Ukraine.
European leaders are now expecting the Prime Minister to act as a bridge with the US to resolve the crisis. Lord West of Spithead, a former national security adviser, said Sir Keir will need to balance a number of factors, including encouraging Europe to step up its defense spending.
Former British defense attache in Moscow John Foreman said Sir Keir could pull the negotiations back from the brink if he keeps a cool head. Sir Malcolm Rifkind, who has previously served as both defense secretary and foreign secretary, said Britain and its European allies have a role to play in mediating between Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Trump.
At Sunday's meeting, Sir Keir will be pushing for more share in procurement deals and will point out that the UK has increased defense spending to 2.5% of GDP and will soon move to 3%, while some still have not even reached the Nato minimum of 2%.

I don't understand why the UK is so involved in this conflict. Shouldn't we prioritize our own internal problems?

I don't trust Sir Keir's judgment on international affairs. He seems naive and easily manipulated.

I'm tired of all this talk about the Ukraine war. It seems like politicians just want to exploit it for their personal agendas.

This meeting is just a publicity stunt by King Charles and Sir Keir. They're trying to use the war to gain popularity.

I think it's irresponsible of Sir Keir to commit more aid to Ukraine when we are struggling ourselves. Our people need help too!

This meeting won't solve anything. It just prolongs the conflict and puts more lives at risk.

It's encouraging to see European leaders working together to find a solution for the Ukraine crisis.

Sir Keir shouldn't be focusing so much on Zelensky. The world has other serious problems that deserve attention.
