Ope Oshinubi, a running back from the University of Alberta, impressed scouts at the CFL's invitational combine with his speed and strength, earning him a spot in the league's national combine.
Oshinubi stood out with a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, the fastest time at the combine. He also showcased his strength with 25 reps on the bench press and a 32-inch vertical jump.
"I knew I'm fast, I knew I'm strong," Oshinubi said. "I just wanted to showcase those two things and I think I was able to do that."
Oshinubi's performance earned him a spot in the national combine, which will be held in Regina from March 21-23. He will be joined by 10 other players from the invitational combine, including quarterbacks Keagan Hall and Jackson Tachinski, receiver Hakeem Harris, offensive linemen Felix Despins and Ethan Pyle, defensive backs Maliek Cote-Azore and Ronan Horrall, linebackers Gabriel Lessard and Liam Hoskins, and defensive lineman Chisanem Nsitem.
At the national combine, Oshinubi will have the opportunity to further showcase his skills in front of CFL coaches, GMs, and scouts. He will also have the chance to be interviewed by teams, which will give them a better sense of his personality and character.
"I've got to tighten up on my routes, for sure," Oshinubi said. "Same thing, though, showcase my strength and speed and just compete."
Oshinubi is hoping to impress teams at the national combine and earn a spot on a CFL roster. He is confident that he has the skills and determination to succeed in the professional ranks.
