Auger-Aliassime Reaches Dubai Final, Set to Face Tsitsipas
Canadian tennis star Félix Auger-Aliassime has booked his spot in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships after a hard-fought victory over French qualifier Quentin Halys in the semi-final. The 24-year-old, who has already lifted trophies in Adelaide and Montpellier this year, displayed remarkable resilience to overcome a challenging first set and ultimately triumph 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Auger-Aliassime faced an uphill battle in the opening set, saving three set points before ultimately succumbing to Halys. However, he regained his composure in the second set, breaking his opponent's serve at a crucial moment and taking control of the match. The Canadian continued his dominance in the deciding set, converting four of seven break-point opportunities and saving both break points he faced.
"I don't know how I pulled it through today," Auger-Aliassime admitted after the match. "I only played three-setters this week, we were both feeling a bit tired, I think. It was just about having positive self-talk, I think everyone can relate."
With this victory, Auger-Aliassime has secured his 16th win of the season, the most on the ATP Tour. He will now face a formidable opponent in the final, 11th-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. Tsitsipas advanced to the final after defeating Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime and Tsitsipas have a history of competitive matches, having faced each other nine times previously. Tsitsipas currently holds the upper hand with a 6-3 lead, including a victory in their most recent encounter at the 2023 Paris Masters. However, Auger-Aliassime did claim a straight-sets win over Tsitsipas in the 2022 Rotterdam Open final, marking his first ATP Tour singles title.
The Dubai Tennis Championships final promises to be a thrilling encounter between two talented players. Auger-Aliassime will be aiming to continue his impressive form and secure his third title of the year, while Tsitsipas will be looking to maintain his dominance over the Canadian and add another trophy to his collection.
