Reece David, a 38-year-old resident of Peterborough, Ontario, has been participating in the Climb for Nature event for the past 12 years. This annual event involves climbing the CN Tower to raise money for World Wildlife Fund Canada.
David's initial motivation for climbing the tower was simply the thrill of the experience. However, as he grew older, he became increasingly aware of the impact of climate change and global warming on wildlife. This realization inspired him to dedicate himself to the climb and use it as a platform to raise funds for WWF-Canada's conservation efforts.
David has participated in the Climb for Nature even during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the event was canceled in 2020, he found a creative way to continue his support. He dressed up as the superhero Deadpool and climbed the stairs of the Peterborough Lift Lock for 15 minutes, posting a video of his climb online. This video caught the attention of actor Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in the films, and earned David a shout-out from the star.
This year, David is aiming to raise $2,000 for WWF-Canada and has set a personal goal of completing the climb in under 20 minutes. He is determined to continue participating in the event for as long as he is able, using it as a way to contribute to the fight against climate change and support wildlife conservation.
