European leaders have expressed strong support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a tense meeting with President Donald Trump.
In a show of solidarity, several leaders took to social media to condemn Trump's harsh reprimands and accusations against Zelenskyy. They reminded Washington that Russian President Vladimir Putin is the aggressor in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, not Zelenskyy.
The EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, criticized Trump's actions and pledged increased support for Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the need for continued assistance to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch also voiced her support for Ukraine, highlighting the importance of respectable diplomacy and condemning Putin's illegal invasion. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere expressed concern over Trump's accusations against Zelenskyy and reaffirmed Norway's commitment to Ukraine's freedom.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk offered words of encouragement to Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people, assuring them that they are not alone. Germany's incoming chancellor, Friedrich Merz, also expressed solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing the need to distinguish between aggressor and victim in the conflict.
While some leaders, such as Turkey's Recep Erdogan and Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, remained silent, others, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, joined the chorus of support for Ukraine. Trudeau condemned Russia's illegal invasion and reaffirmed Canada's commitment to Ukraine's fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty.
In contrast, Russian officials, including former President Dmitry Medvedev, voiced their support for Trump's actions and criticized Zelenskyy. However, the overwhelming response from the international community has been one of solidarity with Ukraine and condemnation of Russia's aggression.
