Chinese officials have expressed deep worry over a recent decision by the U.S. to unblock military aid to Taiwan, a move they see as a direct challenge to longstanding principles. According to the report, funds totaling $5.3 billion were unfrozen, which included $870 million in security exemptions aimed at supporting Taiwan’s programs.
In a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized the U.S. decision by stating that providing military support to Taiwan not only infringes on China’s sovereignty but also violates the commitments outlined in the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, as well as the one-China principle. He emphasized that this move undermines efforts to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Lin further noted that the decision sends a problematic message to forces advocating for Taiwan independence, a stance that China has consistently opposed. He concluded by assuring that China would monitor the situation closely and take necessary action to safeguard its national interests, security, and territorial integrity.
