The All India Congress Committee (AICC) held a meeting with its leaders from Assam on February 28, 2023, to discuss preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in 2026. The meeting was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, and party leaders from Assam, including Gaurav Gogoi, the party's Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha.
During the meeting, AICC Assam in-charge and General Secretary Jitendra Singh Alwar alleged that Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma and his family were looting the state. He said that people from different regions of Assam attended the meeting and discussed the preparations for the upcoming elections and the campaigns to be run.
Alwar further stated that there was a lot of discussion on how the ruling party had spread lies and said that 6 communities would get reservations. He said that the said tree would get Rs 251 but they are getting Rs 220 at Barak valley. They have become frustrated and targeting leaders like Gaurav Gogoi.
Gaurav Gogoi later said that "the corrupt BJP government" in Assam has to be uprooted to "save democracy" in the state. He said the Congress President and Rahul Gandhi spoke to the party leaders from the state and instructed them to move forward. He added that everyone knows that there is an atmosphere of unrest in society and the Lanka of corruption that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has established has to be destroyed.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X that the people of Assam shall discard the "politics of corruption, division and vendetta". He said that three-and-a-half crore people of Assam look towards the Congress to usher in this change and no amount of select-media driven propaganda can shake their resolve for transformation.

Another instance of finger-pointing and blame rather than addressing actual issues in Assam.

It seems like another campaign designed to unsettle people rather than bring about positive change.
