In Nagarkurnool, rescue operations are in full swing at the site of the SLBC tunnel collapse, where a three-meter section of the tunnel roof gave way on February 22. The collapse occurred on an under-construction stretch near Domalapenta, just days after work resumed following an extended pause, and although some workers managed to flee, eight remain trapped underground. Rescue teams are seen employing cutting machines to remove metal rods obstructing access to the affected area, working diligently to reach the trapped personnel.
Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy provided an update on the unfolding rescue efforts, emphasizing that measures have been put in place to minimize risk for the rescue teams while speeding up operations. The minister described a thorough assessment leading to a clearer strategy for ensuring the safety of those involved in the rescue, which will facilitate a faster recovery process for the survivors.
In addition to these efforts, Minister Reddy took the opportunity to cast criticism at leaders of the BRS, particularly targeting Harish Rao for their remarks on the incident. He contended that the previous BRS administration had allowed the SLBC project to languish for a decade, a delay that he argued prevented the timely completion of a project that was crucial for delivering 30 TMC of water to Telangana—an essential resource for three to four lakh acres of agricultural land in Nalgonda.

“Instead of hearty politics, we need effective action and accountability. This report inflames partisan tensions rather than offering solutions.”

“It feels like an excuse is being made for a preventable accident by blaming a decade-long delay rather than proper construction oversight.”

“The rescue operations are clearly important, but the underlying negligence that led to the collapse seems to be brushed aside.”

“Rescue operations shouldn’t be politicized – this narrative appears more like a political jab than a genuine report on a tragedy.”
