UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Meets with President Trump to Discuss Ukraine Peace Deal
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The meeting came just hours after Trump told his Cabinet that he would not provide security guarantees to Ukraine "beyond very much."
Trump, who also met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday regarding Ukraine, is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on Friday.
The meeting between Trump and Starmer focused on the president's efforts to bring the conflict to an end through a peaceful resolution. They later held a joint press conference at 2 p.m. ET.
When asked if he was confident he could get a peace deal done on Ukraine, Trump replied, "We can and we will."
Starmer expressed his gratitude to Trump for changing the conversation and making a peace deal a possibility. He emphasized the importance of a lasting peace, not just a ceasefire, and the need for security guarantees to ensure its success.
However, Trump stated that he does not like to talk about peacekeeping until a deal is in place. He emphasized the need to make a deal first and expressed his intention to have Europe provide security guarantees.
Trump also highlighted his conversations with both Putin and Zelenskyy, noting that nobody had considered peace talks before four weeks ago. He expressed his belief that a peace deal is possible and that he will work to make the best deal for both sides.

“This ‘peace deal’ discussion seems timing-driven rather than genuinely aimed at ending the conflict.”

“How can we trust a deal when Trump refuses to talk about peacekeeping until a deal is in place? It seems too calculated.”

“Starmer thanking Trump for ‘changing the conversation’ is laughable. We saw his administration’s shortcomings before.”
