The U.N. Cuts Off Human Rights Expert for Mentioning Murdered Israeli Babies
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) abruptly cut off a video statement from human rights expert Anne Bayefsky when she mentioned the murder of two Israeli babies, Ariel and Kfir Bibas, by Palestinian terrorists.
The incident occurred during an "Interactive Dialogue" where experts discuss human rights issues with the council. Bayefsky, director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust, submitted a video statement but was cut off after just a few seconds.
Council President Jürg Lauber stopped the video, claiming Bayefsky used inappropriate language. He allowed the video to resume briefly before cutting it off entirely, stating that the speaker's language exceeded the limits of tolerance and respect.
Bayefsky believes the U.N. "stage managed" the incident, as they had access to her video and transcript beforehand and knew what she would say. She argues that the U.N. is censoring any criticism of Palestinian terrorism and antisemitism.
In her statement, Bayefsky also criticized U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk for his statement equating Hamas' attacks with Israel's response. She called Türk a "High Commissioner for Human Wrongs" and said he has "the blood of Jewish innocents on his hands."
Bayefsky contends that the U.N. selectively censored her statement while allowing other speakers to accuse Israel of genocide and other human rights violations without interruption. She believes this demonstrates the U.N.'s bias against Israel and its tolerance for antisemitism.
Bayefsky calls for the U.S. to cut off funding to the OHCHR, arguing that American taxpayers should not be funding an organization that promotes antisemitism and censors criticism of Palestinian terrorism.
