However, Cole emphasizes the need for Congressional action to solidify these protections into law. "Just having executive orders is not going to be enough," she warns.
Trump's executive orders, including the declaration of two genders and the prohibition of federal funding for "chemical and surgical mutilation of children," have faced legal challenges. Additionally, some states continue to allow transgender athletes to compete in women's sports.
Cole believes federal legislation is crucial to prevent future administrations from reversing these protections. She has spoken to individuals interested in instituting a federal ban on medical transitioning for minors.
