In Beijing, authorities have underscored the importance of safeguarding vulnerable populations by enhancing public interest litigation efforts. The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) reported that in the first 11 months of 2024, procuratorial bodies across the nation processed 3,318 cases dedicated to protecting the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and various categories of workers such as women, migrant, and new types of workers. These initiatives have targeted significant social challenges, including cases of employment discrimination against women, issues arising from unlicensed elderly care facilities, and complications related to employment security funds for people with disabilities.
The SPP has identified the protection of vulnerable groups as a critical component of its public interest litigation strategy. Over the past year, more than 140,000 cases have been managed under this framework, illustrating a broad commitment to addressing a wide range of social and public concerns. In addition to these targeted efforts, the authorities have given priority to issues that have widespread impact, such as environmental protection, drug and food safety, personal information security, and the prevention of telecommunications fraud.
Specifically, the report highlighted that during the same period last year, cases focusing on ecological and resource protection, totaling 55,000, received attention alongside investigations into drug and food safety matters and personal information protection. This comprehensive approach reflects an ongoing commitment by China's legal institutions to resolve pressing societal issues and uphold the rights and interests of those most at risk.
