Chinese Vice-Premier Emphasizes Farmland Management for 2025 Harvest

In a recent investigation trip in Shandong province, Vice-Premier Liu Guozhong emphasized the critical role of managing farmland and preparing for spring farming, aiming to secure a bountiful 2025 harvest. He pointed out that proper care for wheat fields and targeted technical guidance are essential for maintaining crop health and productivity.

During his stay, Liu reviewed the winter wheat growth and learned about various strategies to improve crop yields, develop high-standard farmland, and enhance meteorological support for agriculture. He observed firsthand the initiatives focused on ensuring efficient water and fertilizer use and implementing measures to protect crops from diseases, pests, and adverse weather conditions.

With the onset of the spring ploughing and sowing season nationwide, Liu stressed the importance of timely and effective support policies. He called for the assurance of supplies like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as the promotion of advanced agricultural machinery to boost efficiency.

Additionally, Liu underscored the need to improve irrigation and water conservancy, build high-standard farmland, and increase the yields of grains and edible oil crops. He advocated for a balanced approach in agricultural production, aimed at strengthening the production of vegetables, meat, eggs, milk, and aquatic products alongside staple crops.

This is just more greenwashing from the government. They're saying all the right things, but they're not actually doing anything to address the climate crisis or the problems facing agriculture.

This focus on technology and efficiency is not the answer. We need to be focusing on building a more sustainable and resilient food system.

I'm impressed by the focus on high-standard farmland and improved irrigation. This will help us produce more food with less water.

I'm tired of hearing about "bountiful harvests" and "record yields." What about the quality of our food? What about the environment? What about the small farmers who are struggling to survive?

This is a step in the right direction. We need to invest in our agriculture sector and provide farmers with the resources they need to succeed.

This whole thing feels like a PR stunt. The government is trying to distract us from the real issues facing agriculture with empty promises and vague policies.
