China's Dominance

Gu Ailing Withdraws from Asian Winter Games After Suffering Injuries

China's Olympic freestyle skiing champion, Gu Ailing, shared on social media that she must withdraw from the Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 because of injuries sustained during significant competitions. Initially set to compete in three events—freestyle skiing halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air—Gu described the injuries as stemming from a fall at the X Games Aspen as well as further setbacks during World Cup training sessions.

In her heartfelt message, Gu expressed regret over her decision but also conveyed her support for fellow Chinese athletes, wishing them the best in their performances. She detailed the severity of her injuries, explaining that aggressive bruising from a recent crash left her unable to walk, and noted the toll both physical and mental exhaustion had taken on her. Despite her condition, she was determined to push through challenges for the sheer love of her sport.

Gu's announcement also included her plans to work closely with medical professionals to facilitate a speedy recovery, with the aim of returning to competitive skiing as soon as possible during the season. Her earlier remarkable achievements, such as winning three consecutive halfpipe titles in the World Cup, underline her status as a leading figure in her sport and heighten the anticipation for her comeback.

While injuries are real, she still has a title to defend. It’s better to compete while managing pain.

Giving up now only sends a message that she can’t handle the pressure. That’s not the determination we expect.

It’s disappointing to see someone with so much potential bow out because of one bad fall.

Her message was heartfelt and genuine. Health is the foundation, and I respect her decision.
