China's Consistent Stance on the Ukraine Crisis
China's position on the Ukraine crisis remains consistent and clear, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson. This statement came in response to a media inquiry regarding US President Donald Trump's recent remarks about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized China's unwavering support for peace talks and a political settlement to the crisis. He pointed to China's 2023 paper outlining its position on the issue and Foreign Minister Wang Yi's commitment to promoting peace, expressed during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in February 2023.
Regarding Trump's comments, Li Haidong, a professor at China Foreign Affairs University, viewed them as a typical example of US intervention in other countries' internal affairs. He further analyzed the sharp turn in US-Ukraine relations as a reflection of Ukraine being used as a pawn by the US. He highlighted the difference in approach between the Biden and Trump administrations, with the former using Ukraine to weaken Russia and the latter seeking to extract the US from the conflict at Ukraine's expense.
Li concluded by expressing concern that the US' handling of the crisis could escalate tensions and complicate the geopolitical landscape, making a resolution even more challenging.

China's push for a diplomatic resolution shows that not every country is looking for more conflict.

It’s encouraging to see a consistent stance that prioritizes political solutions instead of further escalation.

Finally, a voice that promotes dialogue over conflict—China’s call for peace talks is refreshing.

China might be calling for peace talks, but is it really interested in genuine diplomacy or just playing politics?

I don’t trust this so-called consistency—it feels like a cover-up for promoting their own geopolitical interests.
