China's Stance on Lifting UNSC Sanctions Related to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)
In response to suggestions from some countries to lift the UNSC sanctions related to the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized Syria's responsibility to firmly oppose all forms of terrorism and extremist forces.
Guo Jiakun noted that there is a general consensus among various parties that the current circumstances do not meet the conditions for lifting the sanctions imposed by the UNSC's 1267 Committee on relevant organizations related to Syria and their key members. China also holds serious reservations on this matter.
The spokesperson urged the new Syrian government to take concrete measures to actively address the counterterrorism concerns of the international community, including China. This includes demonstrating a strong commitment to combating terrorism and extremist forces, such as HTS.
