Government Agencies in China Harness DeepSeek AI Models for Enhanced Public Services

In Shenzhen's Longgang district, government officials have implemented the DeepSeek-R1 model on the official extranet, marking a pioneering step in using advanced AI technology to streamline public services. According to local reports, this initiative is part of a series of efforts aimed at making government operations more intelligent, collaborative, and responsive by integrating domestically developed large models into daily administrative practices.

In addition to developments in Shenzhen, Suzhou in Jiangsu Province has adopted both the DeepSeek-R1 and DeepSeek-V3 models on a public service platform that offers cloud computing resources, storage, and other value-added services. This platform not only supports enhanced networked searches and image generation through DeepSeek-R1 but also allows for fine-tuning of the model with private data, enabling the creation of custom knowledge bases tailored to specific needs.

The move towards deploying these AI models is seen as a significant leap in leveraging technology to boost social efficiency, enhance capabilities, and reduce overall costs. Experts emphasize that the practical applications of these systems can benefit a wide range of regions, including developing or underdeveloped areas, by providing more efficient ways to manage public administration and urban governance.

Furthermore, the DeepSeek series models are now accessible via the National Supercomputing Network platform, which allows for online inference, model deployment, and customized training without necessitating local installations. This development aligns with broader national initiatives to integrate supercomputing power into a robust computing infrastructure, a mission spearheaded by the Ministry of Science and Technology as part of the ongoing National Supercomputing Network project.

I'm excited about the use of DeepSeek-V3 for custom knowledge bases. Tailored public services would be so much more helpful!

Focusing on using AI for public services is pointless while social problems, inequality, and poverty are ignored. Fix the real problems!

If AI is going to be used in public sector, we need serious discussions about data privacy, security, and responsible development. This is far too important to rush.

There's no mention of public consultation or involvement in making this decision; is this the kind of "efficiency" government wants?

This implementation of DeepSeek seems like a step towards dystopian surveillance, not progress. Government shouldn't have this much access to our data.

Making government operations more intelligent and responsive? That's exactly what we need to cut through bureaucratic red tape.

Replacing government workers with AI is just a way to avoid paying people properly. What about human rights and workers' livelihoods?
